Krunk..(Crunk)
however it is spelled

Krunking Shakespeare

There are a lot of movies about a teacher finding themselves in an urban school district. Such movies include (The Substitute, Freedom Writers, Dangerous Minds, the Ron Clark Story, Sister Act II, Stand and Deliver, etc...)

This story follows along some of the main principles of those stories. It is supposed to be about a teach who, through difficult times, inspires the students to reach out towards their potential. Trials include gang situations, being threatened, students thinking there is no way out of their current life, etc... Starts with the teacher going into the classroom, almost always new (or a "substitute") with high hopes. Something causes them to almost quit, then they develope a new resolve to help the students. Towards the end, something always makes it seem like they will not achieve their goals, like the trials are too great to overcome, but in the end things always workout.

What makes this different?

The Teacher - Young, just out of college, with a degree to teach English, but not just any english. He has an emphasis in Shakespeare. He gets the job to teach in an "urban" school in California.

First obstacle, his boyfriend (if you know anything about my writing, you shouldn't expect anything else) doesn't believe that he can do it. He is rather femme, in mannerisms, dress, and even to the extent that he studied ballet as well.

Next obstacle, the students. Getting students interested in Shakespeare is difficult in general, but at a school where there is a lot more to worry about aside from boredom and homework, it's almost impossible. He has to find a way to make the plays of Shakespeare relateable to the students' lives.

Another obstacle, his orientation. Teachers who are gay have a more difficult time, especially if outed. Times are changing in some areas, but there are plenty of parents who don't want their kids/teens being taught by someone whom is gay. The fears of student-teacher relationships are high in these situations.

This is just a first, sneak peek at an idea. Not sure if it will pan out to anything but thought I'd share.
