Dark Motion
A poem about our understanding of the universe and our insatiable curiousity.

Darkness creeps upon the land,
so voracious is the night,
a slow and dark spectral hand.
In witness, eyes feast on sight
transfixed from my awe, I stand
left behind in the day's flight.

Stars punch through this darkened veil
to twinkle a merry tune.
I listen close, my ears fail.
Focus waning like the moon.
Light a cigarette, it's stale,
pay no heed the flavor's ruin.

Thoughts fly up towards the stars
and curious is my mind.
Wandering close and then far.
Careless understanding finds
a lone planet resembles Mars
along the path my thoughts wind.

Lonely waves batter my soul.
Strange is this alien shore.
The journey has taken a toll.
Haunted, chilled to the core
by the universe in whole.
Cast away now like a whore.
