There was a loud knock on the door and Joe’s face went white. He had been dreading this moment for months and hoped it would never come but now it was time. He grabbed the few items he owned and headed for the secret door he'd had fitted in the floor at the opposite end of the room. As he got there a loud voice shouted through the door 'We know you're in there surrender now and you won't be harmed.'
Joe carried on and opened the secret door and jumped into the basement below holding the rope on the doors underside. The secret door closed just as the front door fell smashing to the floor. A large group of men dressed in black armor and armed to the teeth burst in. They searched the house ransacking it in the process. Joe hid in a dark corner of the concealed basement hoping the men would not find the door. He had been on the run from the authorities now for over a year and so far he had done well to evade them hiding out wherever he could. To his own mind he had done nothing wrong and he hadn't. It had been his father who had betrayed the self proclaimed King who had ousted the real royal family and taken over the country. He had been part of a team of solders who where still loyal too the real royals and had been involved in a mission that was hoped would reinstate them to their rightful position but they were captured and put to death in front of the nation and now the 'king' was after the men’s families.
Once he felt it was safe Joe careful not to make a sound made a move for the tunnel that had been dug for him to escape through it seamed to go on forever before it came to a stop and there was a set of ladders. Joe climbed the ladder careful not to make a sound and listened for noises through the hatch above. When he was sure he could hear no one he lifted the hatch slightly and took a look around to make sure it was safe to climb up.
