My little sister....

My little sister

Note: This poem is dedicated to a little girl (whose family must be running short of means as she was practicing mendicancy) with whom I had a nanosecond conversation at ‘Har ki paudi’ in Haridawar (A religious place in India frequented by thousands of people every day from all across the country). May God shower never ending happiness on this little girl & bless her with a long life.

P.S.: This poem contains a few explicit Hindi phrases. Withal, for making the poem globally acceptable, I have explained their meanings clearly after the poem. I deeply apologize for using typical Hindi phrases, but I had to do so in order bring the effect, couldn’t help it.

While standing at a roof near ‘Har ki paudi’ in ‘Haridwar’
I noticed thousands ruffling after taking the Holy bath

All at once, my eyes made a contact with a little girl
Making my head go twirl
She was making some innocent moves with her baby face,
And this made me feel amazed

She was expecting me to bend before her
I demanded the reason acting like a questioner
She answered saying “Bhaiyya! Teeka lagwa lo”
Making my heart thaw in one go!

It was kind of obvious
That she wanted money

Withal, I assented to her babyish request
And brought my forehead in her easy access
She did the ceremony
And waited for money in harmony
I explored my pocket for a few change
And handed her a ‘five-rupee-coin’ in exchange

She left me swarming with emotions
As no one ever did the same with such devotion

If I could
Then I would
Give her all the goodness in this world
Feelings like love & happiness being whirled

But all I could do was
Pray to God to keep her safe from the worldly flaws
