Floating Out The Storm
Fall 2004

You haunted me with your smile,
Entranced me with your look.
You seemed so tall on that pedestal.
Never knew I could reach you there,
Never knew I could feel your touch.

You brought me to that windy place,
Waves came crashing all around,
Only tamed by your touch and shattered with a kiss.
You brought me peace like a floating device.
I latched on without a second thought,
Never stopping to think where we would end up when the storm died down.
Never dreaming that you would save me only to leave me with memories of your embrace,
Illusions of your kiss.

Why did you bother to save me?
I would rather have drowned in the gust without ever experiencing your peace.
You left me searching, and I have yet to find an equal peace.
God help me to forget you and our time together.
May it have all been a dream to which there is no remorse.
May it float along, as dreams do, until I cannot remember the taste of lust,
The foolishness of your touch or the fragrance of hunger.
May the waves remain, to wash away any imprint you have left on my heart.

You've lost your pedestal just as I have lost my floating device.
May we be even where it counts,
And walk away with no regrets.
