The Gilded Cage
Love isn't supposed to hurt

Avg Rating: (7)
Battered and broken
No hope in sight.
Silently crying,
On a cold winter's night.
The love of her life,
Loses control.
Forgetting his promise
To have and to hold.
Blow after blow,
He hits her again.
Yelling and screaming,
The bruises can't mend.
Leaving her there,
Sprawled on the floor,
He says, "I need a drink"
And he storms out the door.
Running out of tears,
She just lies there alone.
Struggling to stand,
She looks at her home.
A bright gilded cage
Filled with presents from him.
Gifts of his guilt,
Begging her to forgive.
She slowly climbs the stairs,
And lies down in her bed.
Waiting for him to come home,
And beat her again.
She feels so trapped,
She feels so lost.
She was so much in love,
Now her life is the cost.
