What rambling scrambling fish there were
Beneath the velvet sky They reached for the silv'ry stars Tacked up ever so high And whether, and whether they won them Under the moonlight sky No one knew, no one told us As gunmetal clouds sailed by The seals were cloaked in softest fur So modest beneath the waves When they climbed upon the sand And shook off their sable capes The selkies they were, in truth As humans they danced and swayed Twinkle sprinkle now, oh starry sky Let the magic come unbound And release the forms of seals From the rock-rimmed sound Take their skins and steal away Into the secret swept night Before they rush into the waves Away from the morning light
