Second Chance

How do you give someone a second chance?
Someone who damaged your heart without so much as a backward glance?

How do you decide if that person is worth it?
That person who stole your heart and left you out in the rain?

How do you tell yourself not to obsess,
when he's there day after day, watching you, learning you, breaking you?

How do you make yourself trust them,
even when they look you in the eye and promise not to hurt you?

How do you tell yourself not to get mad,
when a year ago they couldn't care less and today they can't help but fall in love with you?

But how do you keep yourself from falling in love again,
when they seem to be the only person who can make your heart soar?

How do you convince yourself you don't want them,
when they're all you can think about?

How do you decide how you feel about them,
when you can't figure out how they feel about you?

How do you make yourself believe they're true,
when just a year ago they looked at you like you weren't good enough for them?

How do you love them?
When you spent so many hours hating them?"
