Employment Information for the applicant/employee Through the Friends of the Academy Group (FOTA) "The Academy News" is the official newspaper of the A-1 Writing Academy at WDC.com. Reporters will be assigned to cover and create event reporting for focus, news, or feature pages of the Newspaper, with at least one reporter per page. Additionally reporters for "TAN" may create, research, and submit stories of interest to their Page Editor which may be appropriate for the assigned page, or other page of the Newspaper. Additionally, reporters may be assigned topics or specific events to cover by their Page Editor. The successful applicant needs to be a capable writer, a superior editor, and available to the page editor and the team without fail. We believe that employment with TAN is a distinct privilege granted to aspiring and deserving, capable writers within our WDC Community. Having a position as a Page Reporter for TAN is one of status, respect, and repute. It is a badge of honor for a writer to be selected for this position. The person selected for this honor should constantly remain aware of its prsige, power, and purpose. Reportes respond directly to their Page Editors. Reporters may be assigned multiple stories, ideas, concepts etc. by various Page Editors if covering more than one page, or if the needs of TAN require additional coverage. Reporters may, with the prior approval of their Page Editor(s), create and develop their own stories, or story lines. The reporter is responsible for all submissions of their copy to the Page Editor. Copy submitted which is, in the opinion of the Page Editor, may either be returned to the Reporter for further writing, editing, research, etc., or it may be rejected as copy for the issue. If the Page Editor is interested in the story, but sees it as a bad fit for the current issue, he/she may return the copy to the Reporter with a recommendation to "hold for future use". The story then can be augmented with additional facts, research, grapics, etc. and held in the Reporter's file for future inclusion in the Newspaper. The Reporter is responsible for presenting copy that is publication-ready to the Page Editor. We do not censor or alter submitted copy. We accept it, or we return it (for further work), or we reject it. Those are our only available options. Any additional editing on approved copy must be arranged between the Reporter and their Page Editor, or other employee. The Reporter is specifically responsible for all copy submitted under their "By" Line. When it is reviewed, it is seen as the "publication-ready" copy we expect to see. The Reporter is the sole source of determination as to authenticity, accuracy, and presentation and checking of fact. Editors will respond to the copy they see. The copy they see can only be the copy the Reporter prepares.
