In My Best
        by SST  (bookmom@Writing.Com)
Dressed in my best defenses
Sitting where I always have, alone
Wishing to be noticed, pursued, desired
But fearing the attention, but still waiting
Glancing around the room, fearful, hopeful
Glaring at those who dare look my way

And then there was you
Ignoring my defenses and
I let them fall, forgotten
You freed me, to come out and live

Dressed in my best smile
Sitting right next to you, happy
Not noticing anyone around us
Loving the weight of your hand in my own
No longer hiding from life, fearful, hopeful
Hiding from myself and what others might say

Because there is you
Ignoring my defenses and
Helping them fall, forgotten.
