“My Feline Friend” – (extended version)
My furry friend, my darling cat, What joy I’ve had since I found you. You were a scrawny ball of fluff But with my help, you grew and grew. With chicken, tuna, and some cream, You’ve grown from kitten to a cat. I’ve been your playmate and your friend And who could ask for more than that. But this is not a one-way street, You’ve given treasures back to me. You’ve pounced on me when I’m in bed And left claw marks upon each knee. You’ve brought me gifts throughout the year And left them lying at my door. Small birds and rodents, without heads And messy bits I should adore. You’ve left fur-balls inside my shoes And cat “yaks” right beside my bed. My couch is full of long grey strands Of lovely cat fur that you’ve shed. You’ve ripped up every window screen As you have gone inside and out. You’ve peed on rugs in every room All just for fun, I have no doubt. But when you come to me and purr, I somehow just forget your flaws. We snuggle on the bed and sleep With gentle snores and kneading paws. ![]() abcb 8-8-8-8 8-27-07
