Sound of Life
A poem I wrote before a Wind Ensemble concert.

This evening I am hungry
hungry for the thrill.
The swell of adrenaline
each performance brings.

I've done this for ten years
and I've never tired of that feeling.

The bright lights.
The black stands.
The black chairs.
The black notes.
On a white page.

Moving swiftly through my veins
like the blood that gives me life.

So too does this music
and taking with it
    My every worry
    My every fear

I want to hold onto this feeling
Make it last forever.

But it won't stay.
It just won't last.
So all too soon
the music is over.
As quickly as it begin.
