Agoraphobia
A poem describing a panic attack

Agoraphobia

I feel it build, deep inside,
A churning roiling mass,
Come dizziness and shaking leg,
A whirling dark morass.

Heart rate speeds, pressure mounts,
Senses swirling round.
Moisture spreads across cold flesh
I hear a whimpering sound.

Pains now shoot inside the chest,
Whole body starts to shake.
Terror flies across the mind,
Nerve begins to break.

Panic now is at its peak,
Adrenaline full flow,
Out of control and out of mind
Darkness starts to show.

Breath in deep, deep and slow
Learn to ride the wave
I will not die, it soon will pass,
My sanity I’ll save.

Slowly now the panic fades,
Breathing getting better.
And all because I had to go,
Outside to post a letter.
