The Soprano

I hear your soft soprano through the door
Vibrato subtle, song in perfect pitch
The steam makes your voice echo even more
So rarely do you hear a sound that rich

You sang your first sweet notes when you were five
Your tiny lungs relaying God's pure gift
A resonance, like bells that came alive,
I cherished every octave, lilt and lift

As you grow up, I face my darkest fear
You rarely want to share your gift with me
So to this door I have to press my ear,
To capture what you used to give for free

Your soft soprano , like the shower’s steam
Surrounds my senses like a distant dream
