My Way

NEW PROMPT: Write a short story or poem about the following: Your best friend scored tickets to the party of the century...and it's happening on your birthday. Write about that party, who's there, what happens and how it ends

And now, the end is here
And so I face the final Vodka
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'llwilllll not slur - oh, man, I love ya!
We've crashed this unknown pad
Our 'tickets' left with someone else, or so that guy says
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I never knew
But then again, I can't remember
I did what I had to do and saw it through with alka seltzer
I planned each charted course, each step danced like a male Beyonce
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through the cake, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of naked Twister
And now, as dawn arrives, I'm getting smiles from Jonny's sister
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and it's my birthday!

[instrumental]

Yes, it was my way
