A Heart So Wild

A Heart So Wild
Those things which brought comfort
and safety are no longer within reach.
Alone as the fog lifts, I stand at this divide
and ponder my destiny.
On one trail, the solace in knowing solidarity
will one day lead to freedom of the soul.
Traveling the other summons stability,
conformity, and pain.
"How do you tame a heart so wild?" I ask.
I conjure memories of wise words from the elderly.
“You cannot, as the heart is unfailing
in its desires to roam, and once
it has done its wandering,
only then will it settle for love.”
Years have passed since those
spoken words, but still it is not time.
For time and truth
must be on my side;
time as a measured net of safety,
and truth as a swath of God’s love.
A heart so wild shall not endure
this menagerie of pressure and vulnerability,
but will always fight for exposure
to the sunlight of freedom.
