LIVING A LIE

LIVING A LIE

I've been living a lie and it's time to change,
the path I have taken I must rearrange.
A contentment here I have not found,
I need to search for more common ground.
True love comes and true love goes astray,
You were once my sun, the light of day.

Our little house here on Turnberry Street
is now just four walls, a place to meet
and share the events of an uneventful day.
Somehow we lost each other along the way.
I didn't ask for this war, I had no choice.
When I came back, I thought you'd rejoice.

Yet your lips are pursed in a bitter line,
you have no love to exchange for mine.
I'm not alone in living a lie, my dear -
You're living one too, you've made it clear.
It has come to this, a parting of ways,
the question now is who goes, who stays?

It will be easier for me to close the door
and walk away, not hope for any more
of what we used to have together here,
I'll pack my bags, you need not fear.
In the rear view mirror of a rented car
I see clearly now just where we are.

We're two lost souls who used to care enough
to withstand the pain when things got rough.
Too many months I was gone from home,
leaving you to fend for yourself, alone.
So I don't blame you and I can't blame me;
Our life together is now just a memory.
