Worms and Gophers Coming home to my family Happy to have a place to stay And the opportunity to say What's wrong with this world While seeing all that's good Watching my flesh and blood Think nothing of sinking their teeth Into the flesh and blood of cow, chicken, and pig Creating distance by calling it beef and meat I'm reminded of the worms and gophers I realize that sometimes simplicity is complex Sometimes complexities are simple That right is wrong and wrong is right And culture needs a shock to change ... That is, if it is willing to bend at all 15 lines Written for "The Writer's Cramp" Prompt: Write a poem or story called “Worms and Gophers.” Inspired by the song "Earthworms" by Congress Of Starlings. Here are a few specific lines that quickly came to mind: And the earthworm can grow its' tail half. Grow it right on back Not you and I - getting cut in half is it for us And we learn that we're higher up cuz we're more complex. You can hear the beginning of the song here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/bunch and learn more about the band here: http://www.congresofstarlings.com
