~For Sam~
A tribute to my best friend. Rock on, Sam!

Life sucks a lot,
Or so I've learned.
But it's not always
So bad when you've
Got somewhere to turn.

Someone to listen,
Someone to cheer,
Someone who encourages,
Someone who believes...
Someone who won't disappear.

This summer I practically
Lived at your place;
We ate all the Oreos and
Broke your mom's wineglass...
Turned the house into a disgrace.

And that one time after soccer
When we were sore from a long run?
Your mom made us strawberry daiquiries,
And we drank them...
With real rum.

And what about that one night,
We stayed up 'til five AM?
Sitting in the dark eating popcorn and candy,
Talking for hours about
"Remember when...?"

We made our own website,
To complain about life.
If I wasn't at your house
We'd talk on messenger for
Hours a night.

Do you remember that terrorist
Who came to fix the AC?
And that one really weird time
When you decided...
To hug a tree?

You nailed Riley's brother
In the face with a cellphone,
And we met that guy at the mall
Who'd obviously bathed
In too much cologne.

I got stuck at your house
For three nights in a row...
So we had everyone over
To eat large amounts of pizza
And play out in the snow.

I could tell you about
A hundred other things, too.
But then this poem would
Turn into a book about all
The dumb, crazy things that we do.

From starting fires to
Drinking rum,
The list just goes on
When it comes to all
The weird things we've done.

I hate it now that
The summer's done..
We have school now
And not much time
At all for fun.

Oh well, all that matters
Is that you're still my friend.
Someone who's there
Through thick and thin,
There for me until the end.

You mean a lot to me,
You really do.
I've never had another
Friend who's friendship
Was so true.

Thanks for being there,
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for being the
Best friend I could ask,
And thanks for really, truly caring.

I know this poem is
Pretty messed up and bad,
But I just wanted to let you know
How much I appreciate
All the good times we've had.

And in fact,
I'm looking forward to so much more.
More fun and good times,
More memories to make...
Don't know how I got along without you, before.

In turn I'll promise
To always be there.
Be a friend to a friend,
Because someone like you
Is so very rare.

I love ya, Sam. Party like a rockstar!
