                                            Ghazal 9


Persian:  Saqia, barkhaiz dar deh jam ra
              Khak bar sar kun gham e ayyam ra
Urdu:      Aao saqi aur bhar doe jam ko
              Bhar maen dalo gham e ayyam ko

English:=== O come my love, and fill the cup, for it's for me a must 
                  And let's burry my sorrow and pain forever in the dust
                                                      -

Persian:  Saghar e may dar kafam neh, ta zay sar
              Barkasham in dilq e azraq fam ra
Urdu:      Saghar e may hath maen aaay toe maen
              Phaenk doun is dilq e azraq fam ko

English:=== With the ruby wine in my hand I 'll be the talk of town
                  And there will be no need for me to wear my mystic's gown
                                                          -

Persian:  Garcheh badnamiest nazd e aaqilan
              Ma namee khahaem nang o nam ra
Urdu:      Baywaqoofi hi sahi per aaqiloun
              Chahtay hum haen na nang o nam ko

English:=== Though people say that a wise man should try to make a name
                  But I am not a wise man; I've nothing to do with fame
                                                              -

Persian:  Baada dar deh, chand azin baad e ghuroor
              Khak bar sar nafs e nafirjam ra 
Urdu:      Hay takabbur kay maraz maen mubtila
              Dafn ker do nafs e nafirjam ko

English:=== The ethic of sensuality let's all bury in the dust
                  For we are not for casual love; we have no use for lust
                                                            -

Persian:  Dood e aah e seena e sozan e man
              Sokht in afsurdagaan e kham ra
Urdu:      Aag seenay ki, meray dil ki jalan
              Day jala afsurdagaan e kham ko

English:=== Burning we are in the flame of love; our hearts are full of fire
                  So let us hope this fire in us will someday others inspire
                                                            -

Persian:  Mehram e raaz e dil e shaidaay man
              Kus namee beenam zay khas o aam ra
Urdu:      Baat yeh sachchi hay maeray razdan
              Maen na janoun khas ko, nay aam ko

English:=== And let's be proud of what we are; love as much as we want
                  Let people say whatever they want; we are above their cant
                                                            -

Persian:  Ba dilaaramay mera khatir khush ast
              Kaz dilam yakbara burd aaram ra
Urdu:      Dil laga hay aesay dilaaram say
              Loot ker jo lay gaya aaram ko

English:=== Believe it or not, but true it is, we've lost our ease and rest
                  To the love of one who is famous for her most comforting breast
                                                          -

Persian:  Nangarad deegar ba sarv ander chaman
              Her heh deed an sarv e seemandaam ra
              Phir nazar dali na sarv e bagh per
              Daekh ker us sarv e seemandam ko

English:=== To anyone who has seen my girl, so tall, so slim, so trim
                  In the park the pines and conifers will look so very dim
                                                          -

Persian:  Az sar e dunya guzushti, gham makhur
              Khush bakhur ham khush badar ayyam ra
Urdu:      Aey zamanay kay musafir gham na ker
              Jhail hans ker gardish e ayyam ko

English:=== So cheer you up and the happiness do not you ever shun
                  And eat, and drink, and be merry; have lots and lots of fun
                                                      -

Persian:  Sabr kun HAFIZ ba sakhti rooz o shab
              Aaqibat roozay bayaabi kaam ra
Urdu:      Sabr ker HAFIZ ba sakhti roz o shab
              Sehl kerta sabr hay her kaam ko

English:=== And be patient, O HAFIZ dear, and don't torment your soul
                  For one day she will come to you, and you will reach your goal
