of Greek gods and primates
for the Writer's Cramp, a tale of modern incomprehension

in the jungle of potted palm fronds or rusty metal bars
routine monkey chatter is not always centered around bananas
its unquenchable prattling strangely resembles intelligent gossip
concerning last night's “Prison Break” flashback on television
or, reminiscent of their younger days studying mythology,
a simple babbling in ancient tongues evoking emancipation
and symbolic fireworks celebrating various national holidays…
no one likes to be cloistered in four-by-four rooms
with windows only looking out on the stars
all zoo primates rant about such conditions
while the Greek gods aforementioned are so fatigued
by all of the mortal story-telling invented as their eulogies
during the dull millennia following their glory
