I Needed Him!
This poem depicts my mother's emotions at my father's funeral.

The flowers were there,
But, I didn't see.
hugs and prayers
Couldn't comfort me.

I couldn't hear
Through the pain.
All I could feel
Was the cold rain.

I looked up into
The darkening sky.
One question I needed
Answered:  Why?

Standing, surrounded by love
But feeling none...
Wishing and praying
For the blessed sun,

To warm my skin.
So cold - so alone.
Watching the petals
Being blown.

This was a nightmare -
It wasn't right.
I needed him
To hold me at night.

To make me laugh
When I didn't want to.
To share my dinner
Made for two.

I needed to say,"I
Love you," one last time...
To tell him he was
Forever, mine

I wanted to say
My last good-bye,
But all I could
Do was cry.

There was no more time.
No way to bargain.
No more -
Never again.

So I glared
Up above:
Why?
Why take my only love?
