HIDDEN THORNS
Thanks my friend for this bouquet Of red roses you brought. But why is your demeanour So sullen and distraught? You wish to congratulate Me for the love I found. But for me these roses do Emit a wailing sound. They seem to say that today Someone’s heart does so bleed As if to prick the petals, The wily thorns proceed. I cannot forget your love, You don’t have to remind. I cherish the moments when The two of us entwined. But, my friend, life must move on. We parted in the way. You did seek your love elsewhere. No, I did not betray. Your love betrayed you, but mine Walked up to the altar. While offering this bouquet, Why do you now falter? • Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format. * Written for Kansaspoet contest, "Invalid Item" M C Gupta 16 October 2007
