                                            Ghazal 16


Persian:  Subh e doulat medamad ko jam hamchu aaftab
              Fursatay zin beh kuja bashad, badeh jam e sharaab
Urdu:      Subh e doulat maen kahan hay jam misl e aaftab
              Behtareen fursat hay saqi, day mujhay jam e sharaab

English:=== The glorious morning is here again; the sun is finally up
                  Come, O my love, and bring the jug, and fill my morning cup
                                                      -

Persian:  Khana baytashweesh o saqi yaar o mutrib bazlagoo
              Mousam e aish ast o dour e saghar o ahd e shabaab
Urdu:      Khana baytashweesh o saqi yaar o mutrib bazlago
              Mousam e aaram o dour e saghar o ahd e shabaab

English:=== Come, bring your harp, and sit by me, and play a happy tune
                  And let's enjoy our lovely youth; let's eat, and drink, and croon
                                                        -

Persian:  Shahid o saqi badust afshan o mutrib paaykob
              Ghamza e saqi zay chashm e mayparastan burda khab
Urdu:        Saqi o mashooq mehv e naaz, mutrib raqs maen
                Chasm e rindan say uraya ghamza e szqi nay khab

English:=== And let us hold each other's hands; let's hop, and turn, and dance
                  And let's not waste the happy days, and let's not lose this chance
                                                          -

Persian:  Khilwat e khas ast o jaay amn o nuzhatgah e uns
              In keh man beenam ba baedareest ya Rab ya ba khab
Urdu:      Khilwat e mehboob o jaay amn o nuzhatgah e uns
              Jo nazar aata hay ya Rab, yeh haqiqat hay ya khab

English:=== It seems to me that you and me, we make a lovely team
                  Which makes me wonder, is it true or is it just a dream?
                                                              -

Persian:  Az khayal e lutf e may, mashshata e chalakkhoo
              Dar zameer e barg e gul, khush mekunad pinhan gulaab
Urdu:      Daekh ker gulfam may, mashshata e chalakkhoo
              Bher rahi hay aariz e mehboob maen rang e gulaab

English:=== Oh, when I see your cheeks and lips I think they are divine
                  It seems the one who made you so drank lots of rosy wine
                                                              -

Persian:  Az payae tafrih e tab o zaewar e husn o tarab
              Khush bawad tarkeeb e zarrin jam ba lal e muzaab
Urdu:      Dil nawazie kay liay, husn o tarab kay wastay
              Khoob hay tarkeeb e zarrin jam ba lal e muzaab

English:=== It cannot be an accident; it is surely by design
                  The union of my golden cup with the vintage ruby wine
                                                          -

Persian:  Ja e amn o yaar saqi o harifan yakjahat
              Karda chashm e mast e saqi mayprastan ra kharaab
Urdu:      Mehfil e aish o tarab maen daekh aey saqi teri
              Must aankhoun nay kiya hay mayparastoun ko kharaab 

English:=== And putting together your charming eyes with magical mystic gaze
                  It is a feat that must require, not six, but sixty days
                                                          -

Persian:  Ta shud an meh mushtari durha e HAFIZ ra bagoosh
              Merasad her dam ba goosh e Zohra gulbang e rabaab
Urdu:      Jab say haen HAFIZ kay dur meh mushtari kay kaan maen
              Par rahi hay goesh maen Zohra kay gulbang e rabaab

English:=== And HAFIZ has a store of words that his verses when she hears
                  Picks Venus all these gems and pearls, and put them around her ears
