                                            Ghazal 20


Persian:  Aey naseem e sahar aaramgeh e yaar kujaast
              Manzil e an meh e aashiqkush e ayyar kujaast
Urdu:      Aey naseem e sahar aaramgeh e yaar kahan
              Manzil e mehwash e aashiqkush e ayyar kaham

English:=== O morning breeze, you tell me please where is my girl's abode?
                  The pretty one, and the charming one, with a lovely graceful mode
                                                      -

Persian:  Shab e taar ast o reh e wadi e aeman darpesh
              Aatish e toor kuja, wada e didar kujaast
Urdu:      Raat tareek hay aur wadi e aeman derpesh
              Aatish e toor kahan, wada e didar kahan

English:=== Drifted I have in wilderness in order to see her face
                  I've even seen the Burning Bush, but her I could not trace
                                                        -

Persian:  Her keh aamad ba jahan naqsh e kharaabi darad
              Dar kharabat mapuseed keh hushiar kujaast
Urdu:      Is kharabat maen jo aaay kharabi laay
              Maykaday maen yeh na poochho keh hay hushiar kahan

English:=== All of us who abide the earth are imperfect at best
                  So do not think that people in pub are not like the rest
                                                          -

Persian:  An kas ast ahl e basharat keh isharat danad
              Nuktaha hast basay, mehram e israr kujaast
Urdu:      Hay wohi ahl e basharat jo ishara samjhay
              Yun toe haen nuktay bohat, mehram e israr kahan

English:=== Blessed is one who reads a book but reads it between the print 
                  Not the rest of us who see the clues but never take a hint
                                                            -

Persian:  Her sar e moo e mara ba to hazaran kaar ast
              Ma kujaaem o naseehatgar e baykaar kujaast
Urdu:      Roogta, roongta bandhay hay meri bandish e ishq
              Janay yeh baat naseehatgar e baykaar kahan

English:=== And happy is one who loves and loves, and does not ever despair
                  But a wise man who knows not love, he does not really care
                                                              -

Persian:  Aashiq e khasta zay dard e gham e hijr e to basokht
              Khud napursi to keh an aashiq e ghamkhar kujaast
Urdu:      Sokhta aashiq e khata huwa furqat maen teri
              Too nay poochha bhee naheen, hay mera ghamkhar kahan 

English:=== So come to me, and be with me, and put out the flaming fire
                  The fire of love that is consuming my body and soul entire
                                                            -

Persian:  Baada o mutrib o gul jumla mohayyast walay
              Aish bay dost mayassar nashawad, yaar kujaast
Urdu:      Baada o mutrib o gul sab haen muhayya laikin
              Chain dil ko naheen hasil hay, keh hay yaar kahan

English:=== And though I have whatever I want, and whatever I do desire
                  But in your absence I am sick and tired, and my condition is dire
                                                                  -

Persian:  Aql diwana shud an silsila e mushkin koo
              Dil zay ma gosha garift, abroo e dildar kujaast
Urdu:      Aql diwani hoie bandho isay gaisoo say
              Dil gaya haath say, hay abroo e dildar kahan

English:=== With you not there I have lost my all, my soul, my faith, my reason
                  And crying and crying all day, all night I have lost my eyes, my vision
                                                                -

Persian:  Dilam az somaya o sohbat e sheikh ast malool
              Yaar e tarsabacha koo, khana e khummar kujaast
Urdu:      Waiz o sheikh ki sohbat maen lagay dil na mera
              Kya huwa mughbacha, hay khana e khummar kahan

English:=== And I cannot bear the sight of sheik; he does not me inspire
                  He says I love an infidel, something I don't admire   
                                                            -

Persian:  Baz purseed zay gaisoo e shikan pur shikanash
              Kin dil e ghazadaash gashta gariftar kujaast
Urdu:      Halqa dar halqa teray gaisoo say poochhay koie
              Hay dil ghamzada zulfoen ka gariftar kahan

English:=== So let me find my rest and peace in the shade of your curly hair
                  I do not care for the freedom here; I would rather be a captive there
                                                            -

Persian:  HAFIZ az baad e khizan dar chaman e dehr maranj
              Fikr e maqool baferma, gul e bay khar kujaast
Urdu:      Chaman e dehr maen HAFIZ na khizan ka gham ker
              Fikr e maqool hay lazim, gul e bay khar kahan

English:=== And HAFIZ says I shouldn't despair; the winter is part of life
                  To have a rose without the thorn is life without strife
