Monsters’ Halloween ( ... a sonnet)
All Hallow’s Eve is with us once again, The time when ghouls and creatures roam the night. Each werewolf slowly crawls out of his den And every monster comes to share the fright. Their monster voices moan and groan and howl. They sing their jubilation to the skies. Tonight’s the one night they can freely prowl And show their own true selves without disguise. They mingle with the humans as they run, The young ones dressed in masks and wigs and capes. They know they have until the rising sun Before they must, again, hide their true shapes. At dawn, the monsters slowly disappear, To wait for Halloween to come next year. ![]() Shakespearean sonnet form: abab, cdcd, efef, gg
