Like a rat, I was caught. You could feel their anger turning to hatred; their hatred turning to rage. And they were growing larger in number by the minute.
“Think man!” I said to myself, “Think!”
There was no way out for me other than opening the door I was hiding behind and just walking out there. I couldn’t! Only a mad man would go into that! It would have meant certain doom. I also knew that if I didn’t, they would bust the door off its hinges. They were pounding upon in now. I had made a huge and fatal error. I kept thinking that there had to be another way. There just had to be...
But there wasn’t.
The hissing began instantly as the bolt on the door slid back. My heart pounded in the center of my chest. My knees felt numb, as though they had gone to sleep. I thought about running, making a blind dash through the dense magnitude of their hideous, seething contempt. There were too many of them. There were far, far too many of them. I had to cover my ears from the enveloping roar!
There faces, their eyes, the intensity of their insane blood-lust, they moved toward me. I began backing up, my hands out in front of me warding them off. ”Now just hold on,” I kept saying. “It was a mistake!” They couldn’t hear me. “A simple mistake!” I pleaded. They wouldn’t hear me! “For the love of God!”
I tried for the exit. What other choice did I have? The first five yards felt like miles. They were hurling insults— vile, vicious, ugly insults as I fled. Couldn’t they understand? I mean, come on! Like none of them had ever walked into a men’s room before!
