The wedding pictures adorn the room
of John and me, who were married in June to the tune-“Here comes the bride” as we smiled and danced down the aisle, where Sally, Mary and Sue-my bridesmaids from school, all dressed in pink and blue with red ribbons too, formed a circle to celebrate with our parents and guests, who were crying, showing joy in their eyes as we left for the honeymoon. Now pregnant, with our child I say goodbye to John who went to war, as I push the broom to clean the room where we lay the day he went away. I broke the pictures off the wall the day my life of trust turned to dust by those who came to say- Your John was brave-but now no more. Now, as my trembling heart buckles my knees my mom and dad support me and my baby- who will never know or see her father walking through the door. Mentally scarred, mirrored in my mind I try to find the purpose of my life, where relationships come and go but still they leave me blind. Then one day I read-“Volunteers wanted”. I apply and am sent to help the lonely where I meet a man of God who took me by the hand and cried with me in sympathy. Today! I sit and hide away from society hoping that my John will dream of me and his baby, who is now a teen ever loving and supporting me.
