The Wilderness Home of the Beaver
A poem about a beaver in the wilderness.

A cool, restful lake,
Nestled between the mountainous shores
And the expansive wilderness
Of the Northwestern United States:
An indelicate home to the restless and the wild.
A historic and symbolic creature,
The beaver, existing amid the waterways
Feeding this lake – cold rushing mountain streams
Surrounded by tall green majestic trees.
The busy beaver, as he’s known,
Sawing on tree trunks and limbs,
Seeking to dam the stream by his home
To halt the swimming fish
In this precariously untame environment.
The building of the dam over long, intense hours,
Then a moment to rest, and eat,
As the dam dissipates,
The stream casting aside any fears
Of its relentless flow being tamed for good.
Nature’s cyclical tone continues unabated…
