Autumn Experiences

Leaves of crimson, gold,
orange, and brown,
all whirling and swirling
in a group;
dancing in merriment
for the coming rain.

The smell of the coming rain
weighs heavily in the air.

Down comes the rain.
Thunder crashes
as the storm carries on.

The night has come
yet daylight should prevail.

The lights flicker
dimming for mere moments,
as lightning flashes.

Bright lights flash.
Splashing a spectrum of color
into the sky for all to see.

The air is thick with
the smell of the damp earth
and a hint of wood smoke
from a distant fire.

Large drops of cold rain
slide down the spine.

Along comes a gust
whipping hair to and fro.

Stepping through the door
the smell of rich coffee
waffs in the air;
like a lover beckoning.

The rich fragrance of
cinnamon and sugar
melted together
on fresh rolls
holds the senses.

Yet the coffee beckons.

Filling a cup and gingerly sipping
the hot soothing liquid,
chases away
all remaining chills.

Then again,
the Cinnamon Rolls
captures the senses.
Carrying a sweet
inviting sent,
that steals away all thoughts
of the storm raging outside.

The pitter-patter
of icy rain on the window
announces
the summer is gone
and fall has arrived.

As if on cue,
a large drop of water falls
from sopping hair
down the spine
Causing the roaring fire,
to capture,
to hypnotize,
with it’s rhythmic motion
and alluring heat.

The flames of,
crimson, orange
and gold
dance enticingly;
reflecting the colors
of the season.
