If Only ... Traces of you linger, captured within an evanescent moment when the world stood still, marking what was once your existence before allowing it freedom in eternity. This odd perfume haunts me, wafting through my mind, filling the empty corners you were unable to touch, completing what was first begun in my now distant memory. My life has been stolen, pulled into an abyss of hopelessness, where the continual pressing movement of undiscovered future mocks me with vanishing speed. Comfort will never arrive, its essence lost along with you. I listen as the tempo of my pendulum beats in place of my dying heart. Alone, I stand in the void between life and death, replaying our lives, praying this ending would never come. I am left with an infinity of never-ending emotions all tied together with the fragile strand of our togetherness, all beginning with the words, “If only…” When will these thoughts of you turn from something other than pain filling deepening pockets of remorse time will never heal?
