Missing

The sun keeps rising
The world doesn't stop
But you're missing
And I'm distracted,
Heavy thoughts bombard me
Where have you gone?
What have you been through?

You're not mine but someone's son, grandson, friend
But we are neighbors from same town, same school
As my son, and as I watch my son
Six years old, already a swagger in his step,
I can't imagine how your family is coping,
How would I, if you were mine.
This hit way too close to home.

Your picture finally showed up
All over town, so sad
It took almost week of no leads
For everyone else in town
To realize-not all seventeen year olds
Are up to something
I wish you were, I would worry less

But you are a good kid, friend, student
From a great family, excellent school
You remind us all to hold our kids a little tighter
Relish every smile, laugh, tear
Because Missing at any age is a tragedy
And we all need to care, worry, help, hope
We miss you and pray you are found

For you could be ours
And in a way, you are
You may no longer be missing
But you will be missed.
