There are times as you are writing that you want to elaborate on something that you have written but don’t want to take away from the thought with unnecessary wording. Well, WDC has created just the option for those times. Popnotes are the latest and greatest way to add notes to your ideas. They are fun and creative and addicting once you get the hang of it.

The Popnote WritingML tag shows as a word or group of words with a dotted line underneath and if you hold your mouse over it, there is an explanation, a definition, a witty comment, an example or anything your imagination can come up with.

An example of a popnote would be this:

In my few months on writing.com , I have gained tremendous knowledge to aid my writing ability.

Popnotes are created with the same general keystrokes as other WritingML. There is an opening and a closing or a beginning and an end. So to begin and end, you will start with {popnote:} and end with {/popnote} The difference is the text that goes between the opening and closing. To make the original word in your story or blog entry, type the following:

Type the squiggly {
Next type the word popnote
Follow with a colon ( : )

In quotations type the text as you normally would and it will show as dotted underlined text. In the above example, you would type “writing.com”

Close the text with another squiggly

You now have

{popnote:”writing.com”}

Next type the elaboration or the extra explanation or witty remark. In the above example, the wording would be a premier online community

Then close the popnote with {/popnote}
So you now have:
{popnote:”writing.com”}a premier online community{/popnote}
It shows up as this:
writing.com

Have fun and use the popnotes every chance you have. You will be amazed how fast it will become a habit and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.
