FAMILY OR LIVE IN?-- a sonnet
It’s difficult to say what is virtue And what in fact does constitute a vice. Youth ask why, to marriage, they should subdue, When live-in can equally well suffice. They do want the company of someone, And the carnal pleasure he or she gives. But yet commitment they want to have none. It’s through commitment, society lives. Without a family there is no home, And family means son, daughter, parents. Outside places like US, England, Rome, The "live-in" a society resents. Why avoid one’s responsibility? Is family such a difficulty? * Initially written as entry 467883 in the book MISCELLANEA "MISCELLANEA" • A sister sonnet: FAMILY TIES: a sonnet,"FAMILY TIES: a sonnet" M C Gupta 10 November 2006
