                                            Ghazal 36


Persian:  Zahid e zahir parast az haal e ma aagah neest
              Dar haq e ma her cheh gooyad, ja e hitch akrah neest
Urdu:      Zahid e zahir parast ahwaal say aagah naheen
              Jo bhee kehta hay kahay, ham ko zara akreh naheen

English:=== The preacher, he knows not me at all
                  Blame him you cannot; his mind is small
                                                      -

Persian:  Dar tareeqat her cheh paesh e salik aayad khair e oost
              Dar saraat ul mustaqeem aey dil kasay gumrah neest
Urdu:      Sufion ki rah maen jo kuchh bhee aaay theek hay
              Hay saraat ul mustaqeem, is maen koie gumreh naheen

English:=== Though a mystic has hurdles many to cross
                  By the grace of God he isn't at loss
                                                          -

Persian:  Ta cheh baazi rukh numayad, baezaqay khahaem raand
              Arsaa e shatranj e rindaan ra majal shah neest
Urdu:      Daekhtay baazi ka rukh haen ik piyada chal kay ham
              Arsaa e shatranj e riddaan maen majal e sheh naheen   

English:=== The game of life is a game of chess
                  To a clod like me it is simply a mess
                                                          -

Persian:  In cheh istaghnaast ya Rab, win cheh daawar haakim ast
              Kin hama zakhm e nihanast o majaal aah neest
Urdu:      Hay yeh kaisie bayniazi, kaisa yeh insaaf hay
              Is qader zakhm e nihaan aur dard bayperdeh naheen

English:=== What sort of justice is it and why
                  I'm not allowed even to sigh?
                                                          -

Persian:  Cheest in saqf e buland e saada e bisyaar naqsh
              Zin moamma hitch daana dar jahan aagah neest
Urdu:      Hay kahan daar ul haqiqat, kon hay is ka makeen
              Aqlmandaan e jahan is raaz say aageh naheeen

English:=== And what is real, and what is not?
                  No one, we know, knows what is what
                                                        -

Persian:  Her keh khahad goo bia o her keh khahad goo baroo
              Geerodar o hajib o darbaan dar in dargah neest
Urdu:      Jis ka jee chaha wo aaya, jis nay chaha wo gaya
              Yan pay koie geerodar o hajib e dargeh naheen

English:=== The final reality is only God
                  His august realm no one has trod
                                                          -

Persian:  Bar dar e maykhaana raftan kaar e yakrangaan bawad
              Khudfarooshan ra ba koo e mayfarooshan rah neest
Urdu:      Rehna may khanay kay dar per mukhlisoun ka kaam hay
              Khudfaroshoun ki ba koo e mayfaroshan reh naheen

English:=== The wine of love is for the sincere
                  Of pangs and pains they have no fear
                                                        -

Persian:  Banda e peer e kharabaatam keh lutfash daim ast
              Warna lutf e sheikh o zahid gah ast o gah neest           
Urdu:      Banda e peer e mughan haen, us ka daim hay karam
              Warna lutf e sheikh o zahid gah hay aur geh naheen

English:=== Oh, I am the slave of the abbot of pub
                  Me always the preachers wrongly rub
                                                          -

Persian:  Sahib diwaan e ma goya nameedanad hisaab
              Kandarin taghra nishaan e hashat e allah neest
Urdu:      Sahib e diwaan ko kerna naheen aata hisaab
              Hukm maen us kay nishaan e hasbat e alleh naheen

English:=== Of sin and virtue they keep an account
                  And redemption and mercy they tend to discount
                                                          -

Persian:  Her cheh ast az qaamat e nasaaz e bayandaam e maast
              Warna tashreef e to bar baala e kas kotah neest
Urdu:      Ik khata e qaamat nasaaz e bayandaam hay
              Werna yeh khalaat kisie bhee jism per koteh naheen

English:=== And they are so lost in the nitty and gritty
                  Unable they are to see God's pity
                                                        -

Persian:  HAFIZ ar bar sadr bansheenad, zay aali himmatiest
              Aashiq e durdikash ander band e maal o jah neest
Urdu:      Wajh e aali shaan hay HAFIZ ki aalihimmati
              Warna toe durdikashoun ko bandish e rutbeh naheen

English:=== If HAFIZ is honored, it's for his vision
                  Of money and power, he has no provision
                                                      ====
