Beauty’s pledge
Hidden in humble hedge
Prickly thorns guard coy petals tight furled.

Soon opens her velvet heart to admiring world
Frilly petticoats of confident splendour swirled
Now full-blown, bees hover thickly close

Aging, past glory shows
Fading rose.
