Albatross The rock skipped clouds bounce over the crests And slide into the long valleys of foam, As the winds chastise recalcitrant waves On the seas of the Albatross home. The horizon curved edge at the end of sight Recedes from the flight of its ways, As it trampolines over the tops Of the rippling waves of the month’s long days. Long before the storm rustles the waves It rides on the winds ahead of the gale, To find a place of far wander-more seas To continue its effortless sail. Days follow nights and nights follow days, As it glides on its solitary flight With only the ghosts of mariners lost, For company in the depths of night. The breath of the breeze is under its wings A lifting gift from the love of God, That carries the bird of wanderlust ways Above the home of mysteries odd. It goes on its way in peace unbeknown To the life of the land and the sea, A dream pursued by all of the world, A dream pursued throughout eternity.
