Battle For You

How many miles can separate you and me
Before I can’t count it on my hands?
How many mines could hold the dinosaurs,
And the gold that made my ring
Before this earth is too deep?
Names and numbers are plastered in black and white
Haunting my dreams in deeper canyons,
Than pick axes and drills are built to reach.

I caught some rays, trying to beat the sun
Dug my way up to the sky,
Climbing through broken branches and battered leaves
Finding holes of light blue through the gray.
I cracked through, digging my way to find you
But I must have dug a little to close, hitting rays to far away
Breaking the sky and turning it black, and fell to the ground
Landing black and blue, just from the sight of you

I can’t breath in the bubbles or green fish scales
But did you know I could walk on water
The whales laugh and the sharks moan
At the sights of my white feet upon their sky of crescent waves
If you could push your hands just a little bit father from shore
Their talons and teeth could disappear from reach
But when the waves got to high I found out
I had forgotten to swim

The mountains laughed as I started my climb at its feet
Kicking through rocks, and the trees, the grime.
But as the sky become closer to my palms and cheeks
The mountain roared with jealousy
They could see your face etched to close to reach
And started to rumble and blow
Snow froze, rain drenched, wind blew
But I still fought to get to you
I landed face down, and looking up
And the mountain started laughing again

I drug my body through every part of earth
To find some name they painted in blue.
Human hearts are made to bleed; and to heal again
My stitches have healed, my scars are many
But I still hold it out for someone to take
But how many more faces can I offer it to
Before my footsteps outlive my heart
The heart is only built so deep
That it is just enough for someone to reach
