Reading Girl and the Dragon

I

Reading Girl's eyes danced on her computer
Reading works of friends at her writing site.
She clicked on a port she knew would suit her.
Boom! Her wall crumbled, in came streams of light.

From the dust came a majestic dragon.
It was just as she always pictured them.
Warm, brown eyes, each huge as a child's wagon
Plucked her fear, as a flower, from its stem.

Look at you, you beautiful creature,
With golden scaled body, so muscular;
So graceful. Though large in size, you feature
The agile movement of deer as they spar.

Excitingly far from the normal fare
Your dreamland dragon makes your home its lair!

II
A thought, or inner voice, spoke in her mind,
"Come, Reading Warrior, we must win the fight.
Free the Writing Knight for you are so kind.
You have the power to change wrong to right".

Reading Girl ran swiftly to her new friend
Who laid his body to the wooden floor.
She ran up his wing to its inner end,
Then tucked her feet under the wings that soar.

Through the smashed wall, over the roadside cars
High they climbed into the shining night sky.
The sharp slivered moon reaped the silver stars.
The sun rolled out dawn's hues to bid night, "Bye".

In an enchanted field by red wood cedars
See the knight tied by the dark forces' leaders.

III
The Writing Knight was tied with ropes of gold.
Reading Girl untied the entangled knots;
Then both she and the Writing Knight fought bold.
As they stood, the dark forces come to naught.

Reading Girl is both reader and writer.
The brave Writing Knight reads and writes as well.
Dragons and such make their stories brighter
Strong writers pull readers under their spell.

Without readers, writers pen useless works,
And to the strength of the dark forces they fall.
Society fails when ignorance lurks
Creativity snuffed, night covers all.

Go! Move the masses to birth new readers.
Craft enticing works, you writing leaders.
