                                            Ghazal 45


Persian:  Merhaba aey paek e mustaqan badeh paighaam e dost
              Ta kunam jaan az sar e taghbat fida e naam e dost
Urdu:        Merhaba aey namabar day la kay ik paighaam e dost
              Ta keh raghbat say karaen ham jaan fida e naam e dost

English:=== Bless you, O courier, do not demur
                  Give me the message you brought from her
                                                      -

Persian:  Wala o shaidaast daim hamchu bulbul dar qafas
              Tooti e tabam zay shouq e shakkar o badaam e dost
Urdu:        Shaiq o shaida banaay misl e bulbul qayd maen
                Taba ki tooti ko shouq e shakkar o badaam e dost

English:=== Whenever I think of her lips and eyes
                  My passion for them I cannot disguise
                                                    -

Persian:  Zulf e o daam ast o khalash daana e an daam o man
              Bar ummeed e daanaay uftadam ander daam e dost
Urdu:      Khal e rukh daana ho jab, Gaisoo e mushkin daam ho
              Shouq e daana say giraen ham kuen na andar daam e dost

English:=== Her locks are a snare; here mole a bait
                  To fall in the trap I can hardly wait
                                                          -

Persian:  Sar zay masti barnageerad ta ba subh e rooz e hashr
              Her keh chu man dar azal yak juraa khurd az jaam s dost
Urdu:      Sobh e mehshar tak uthaay sar na masti say koie
              Haath maen roz e azal aa jaay jis kat jaam e dost

English:=== Whoever does sip the wine of her lip
                  On wit and wisdom he loses the grip
                                                          -

Persian:  Man nawishtam naamaay az sherh e haal e khud walay
              Dard e sar bashad namoodan baesh az in ibraam e dost
Urdu:      Sherh e haal e dil likhi toe hay, magar dar hay mujhay
              Bun na jaay dard e sar maera kaheen ibraam e dost

English:=== Although I write her sheets and sheets
                  Seriously my letters she never greets 
                                                          -

Persian:  Mail e man soo e wisaal o qasd e o soo e firaq
              Tark e kaam e khud giriftam, ta barayad kaam e dost
Urdu:      Qasd us ka soo e furqat, wasl chahay dil mera
              Tark e maqsad maen meray goya hay pinhan kaam e dost

English:=== And though she knows I love her a lot
                  Oh, what's the use; she loves me not
                                                              -

Persian:  Gar dehad dastam, kasham dar deeda hamchu tootia
              Khak e rahay kaan musharraf gardad az iqdaam s dost
Urdu:      Aankh maen apni lagaoun us ko surmay ki terheh
              Khak e reh kertay mushrraf haen jisay iqdaam e dost

English:=== So day and night I sit in her street
                  Hoping to catch the dirt of her feet
                                                                -

Persian:  HAFIZ andar dard o gham meesooz o ba darmaan masaaz
              Zan keh darmaanay nadarad dard e bay aaraam e dost
Urdu:      Chara soz e aashqi ka hay naheen HAFIZ koie
              Dard e bay darmaan hay maera, dard e ba aaraam e dost

English:=== But, HAFIZ, my pain I must endure
                  For the ailment of love there is no cure
