I AM OF NO USE--award winner

Am I now of any use?
I have known so much abuse.

Do I have a heart now left?
No, now it is broken, cleft.

How can I play with my doll?
Adults have taken my all.

Am I any more a child?
I have witnessed orgies wild.

Is there any hope for me?
Not a ray I can yet see.

On this earth I have no place.
Yet, Lord, do I have Your grace?

• Written as 7-7 rhyming couplets.

* Awarded third place in "Invalid Item “A Broken Heart Poetry Contest”, Round 2, December 2007.
