The Old Freight Train

First Verse:
The old freight train moves out of the yard.
Awakening the night its engine pulls hard.
Through the hill, the tunnel tracks have lead.
It's given full throttle for the grade up ahead.

Second Verse:
Its flashing beacon casts out an eerie light.
A ghostly whistle pierces through the night.
The earth shakes the rail road tracks vibrate.
Windows rattle as my whole house shakes.

Chorus:
It's laboring as it keeps its load on the roll.
The old steam engine pulls, but surely slow.
An old freight train on a scheduled coal run.
Pulling its freight weighing many a ton.

Third Verse:
The boxcars are loaded with tons of coal.
It is Nashville bound to fulfill its final goal.
The roar and rumble chilled me to bone.
When I was a little boy and living at home.

Fourth Verse: Verse:
I would pull the covers up over my head.
By seeking the security of my cozy bed.
In a induced trance I'd soon fall to sleep.
The old freight trains memories run deep.
