My Bio

Mari Mitchell lives in the high deserts of California. She has been married for over ten years, has two sons, two pet rats (who are actively plotting to take over the nearby space port,) and one very round, very loved cat (who is passively-aggressively taking over the couch and computer.)

Her storytelling follows her heart. She has a love for dark and wholesome things. She has many interests: Books, folklore, history, fairy tales, ghost, witchcraft, time travel, space, myths, cooking, movies, music, sewing, art, animals, sci-fi and chocolate.

Although she always wanted to write, she never thought she would be able to due to her dyslexia. In some ways, it is like wanting to be a marathon runner when you are a caterpillar. Fortunately, through technology, time and lots of help from virtual friends she is able to allow her imagination to have wings. She sincerely hopes her fingers fly with tales for a long, long time to come.

She has placed in several contests on Writing.com and has had almost 20 things published in her first 2 years of submitting. Some can be found on Cherry Bleeds, Morphus Tales, and the anthology The Black Whole. Her tale "Alice in Ink" was chosen as Editor's Choice in Grim Graffiti of 1/08.


She recently obtained an agent for her novel. Currently, she is working on her first novel, a dreamy dark fantasy of obsession and mythology, tentatively titled: Blood and Ink.

Dear Cordelia Press,

My name is Mari Mitchell, and I've written a short story of 6,000 words that fits most comfortably in the genre of horror. It's called Blood and Ink, and I would very much like to send it to you for possible publication/representation.

Heather Byron, a burned out, bored English teacher becomes enthralled with her dream world where she is seduced by Malachi Summerset. In an effort to increase the reality of her dream she writes and enters the land of Lemuria, the land where her books are set. There, vampires waltzed, she took tea with griffins, obakes played tricks on fuddles to watch them fall apart. Nabéshima cats wore green slippers and gossamer gowns. All with a dark lining. Years later, after much success, Malachi knows that Heather cannot write much longer, trapping him into a never changing world. He seeks out a fan of the books, Zohey Lenfent, to kill Heather and bring him into the real world.
