English and Urdu translation of the odes of Hafiz e shiraz, the voice of God

                                            Ghazal 61


Persian:  Paish az inat baesh an in ghamkhari e ushshaq bood
              Mehrwarzi e to baa ma shohra e aafaaq  bood
Urdu:      Waqt tha aisa bhee, wo khud mayel e ushshaq tha
              Lutf e baymiqdaar us ka shohra e aafaaq tha

English:=== There was a time when you were kind
                  Our love was the talk of the humankind
                                                -

Persian:  Yaad baad an sohbat e shabha keh baa zulf e to am
              Behs e sirr e ishq o zikr e halqa e ushshaaq bood
Urdu:      Yaad hay raatoun ki wo sohbat, teri zulfoun kay saath
              Behs e sirr e ishq o zikr e halqa e ushshaq tha

English:=== And there were nights when we would talk
                  Of nothing except your curly lock
                                                  -

Persian:  Husn e mehrooyan e majlis gar cheh dil meeburd o din
              Ishq e ma bar lutf e tab o khoobi e akhlaaq bood
Urdu:      Husn e mehrooyan e majlis nay liay ger deen o dil
              Dilruba kuchh kam na un ka lutf e khush akhlaaq tha

English:=== And though you robbed us of our creeds
                  We only talked of your noble deeds
                                                  -

Persian:  Paish az in kin saqf e sabz o taaq e meena barkasheed
              Manzar e chashm e mara abroo e jaanaan taaq bood
Urdu:      Saqf e sabz o taaq e meena bannay say pehlay kaheen
              Abroo e jaanaan kay ander maen nay deekha taaq tha 

English:=== Before this world even came to be
                  In love with your lips and the eyes were we
                                                  -

Persian:  Az dam e subh e azal ta aakhir e shaam e abad
              Dosti o mehr bar yak ahd o yak meesaaq bood
Urdu:      Az dam e subh e azal ta aakhir e shaam e abad
              Inhisaar e dosti ik ahd, ik meesaaq tha

English:=== We also thought from the first to last
                  That our love would last, and outlast
                                                  -

Persian;  Saaya e maashooq agar uftaad bar aashiq cheh shud
              Ma baa o muhtaaj boodaem, o ba ma mushtaaq bood       
Urdu:      Saaya e mashooq aashiq per parha to kya huwa
              Us ka shaidaie tha maen, wo bhee mera mustaaq tha

English:=== And that if we were in love with you 
                  For us some feelings you must've too
                                                  -

Persian:  Rishta e tasbeeh agar bagzist maazooram badaar
              Dastam ander sayid e saqi e seemeen saaq bood
Urdu:      Rishta e tasbeeh agar toota, thi maazoori meri
              Hath ander sayid e saqi e seemeen saaq tha

English:=== And if my rosary broke in my hand
                  I was playing with your finger band
                                                  -

Persian:  Dar shab e qadr ar sahoohi karda am aebam makun
              Sarkhush aamad yaar o jamay bar kinaar e taaq bood
Urdu:      Qadr ki shab maen nay pee hay, aeb laikin mat laga
              Paas tha maashooq, shisha ber kinaar e taaq tha

English:=== In Ramadan if we sometimes drink
                  It isn't wrong to be happy, we think
                                                  -

Persian:  Bar dar e shaham gadayay nuktay dar kaar kard
              Guft bar her khan keh banshistam, Khuda razzaaq bood
Urdu:        Ik gada e baynawa jata daroun per tha magar
                Khan per shahoun kay bhee us ka Khuda razzaaq tha

English:=== Though kings provide the poor with food
                  It's a gift of God; they shouldn't be rude
                                                  -

Persian:    Shaer e HAFIZ dar zamaan e Aadam ander baagh e khuld
                Doulat e nasreen o gul ra zeenat e auraaq bood
Urdu:        Shaer e HAFIZ ahd e Aadam maen bhee ander khuld kay
                Doulat e nasreen o gul tha, zeenat e auraq tha

English:=== And the verses of HAFIZ in paradise
                  Are considered precious, and above any price
