STATUE IN THE RAIN
As I walk, Umbrella in hand, Along the park, it rains. I take cover and hide beneath The open umbrella. And, Then I hear the rain drops strike Against the white marble, The statue of Venus, Open, Uncovered, Standing for ages. I, the omnipotent man, Vanquished by rain drops! The soul of the soul-less statue Mocks and smiles at me. The living will perish, The non-living, never. • Written for "Pond Poetry" M C Gupta 20 December 2007
