Captive Heart
Lost love poem

You were the one who captured my attention
Who held my interest, my eyes, my gaze.
You did nothing to arouse my interest --
Yet you captured my heart all the same.

I was not looking, I had no interest
My heart had been burned until nothing remained.
Yet from the ashes I never knew existed
You stirred the embers into an unquenchable blaze.

Side by side we worked together daily
You rarely even knew I was there.
But at the end of each day when we parted
Part of my heart went with you, empty until the next day.

Then came that inevitable final parting,
Your success was now moving you on.
I could only stand with the others and smile -
My heart remained with you forevermore.
