RECOVERY

There was a time when we broke up,
My world came to an end.
Despite having lost everything,
To you I did pretend.

I sobbed and cried throughout the nights
Days could not be duller.
Mine was but a dark existence.
Life was drained of colour.

Without a word you went away,
Without a parting kiss.
It seemed to me ever in life,
Your love I would so miss.

Now that we have again by chance
Met in the path of life,
Let me tell you I have no thoughts
Of being someone’s wife.

Much water has flown down the bridge
And I am no more young.
I have let go the straw of love
To which I had once clung.
