The many forms and scales of beauty
writer's cramp contest entry: Write about the Grand Canyon |
| “Grand” - massively inadequate adjective to describe The immense impression left by the Colorado River All have seen pictures of this great natural wonder - Pictures that don’t do one tenth the justice due its beauty The colors at sunset exceed an artist’s palette The enormity of the phenomenon can only be Appreciated in person. The power of the river, Over a vast period of geologic time, has Created extraordinary beauty which must be seen To be believed. Even more remarkable than this, Is that man, alive for a blink of an eye relative to The creation of the Grand Canyon, can create anything To rival its impressive beauty – and yet we do. Beauty comes in many schedules, some fast like a shooting star, Some like literature that an author slaves over for years, And some natural wonders that take aeons to achieve their full glory. Those who would deny themselves appreciation of all of these miracles Do so at the peril of mutilating their souls. *** 18 lines *** |
