THE PROMISE

He can give no love, his bitterness
consumes his soul and eats away
at his sanity, in nightmares he
does not see hope or the promise.

Crumpled version of a lost soul
can only be changed by forgiveness,
moving on and away from the pain.
He fights to live for another day.

His list of loves found and lost
grows longer as he reaches out,
once more trying to restore his faith
in what should be a forever thing.

Late night, stars in heavens shine
down on the man as he struggles
with inner demons, captured by all
the things in the world gone wrong.

Sinking down, breathing his last
breath in an unkind, uncaring world,
he is surrounded by brilliant light as
God's hand reaches to claim him.

That is the promise! No matter
the trials and tribulations of earth,
the pain and suffering ends at last.
One by one we are brought home.
