RED ROSES , MY LOVE.
Please will you be my sweet Valentine? And will you bring me roses of red? Will you say "Please be forever mine", 'Til my roses are wilted and dead? I will give my heart without question, I will tend to your every desire. All I ask of you is to love me As a moth loves the flames of a fire. Each Valentine's Day I dream this dream, Knowing well that it cannot come true. For your heart belongs to another, And I'll never be noticed by you. I see you each day hand in hand dear, With the one who has now won your heart. And I curse that smug little cherub, Angel Cupid, who fired his dart. A sound brings me out of my daydream. There's a knock on my door - could it be? A bouquet of roses and candy In the hands of - but wait - it's not he! This face is familiar, I know him, He has been by my side all my life. A friend through the years since childhood, And he asks me to now be his wife. My daydreams have all been forgotten, (I don't even remember his name). My true love was always here near me, I just opened my eyes and he came.
